Characters

They are a lot of different characters in Catching Fire, more than the first book. The reason for this is because everything has come to another level. Katniss and Peeta became more popular than they were just a year ago after winning the 74th Hunger Games. They gained more responsibility about certain stuff and they met more new people.

I'm only going to talk about a couple of characters who I think has a huge impact on the book.

First of all there is Katniss Everdeen. This trilogy is basically based on her life, the author keeps her life in focus most of the time. She is the main character in the book. The book doesn't give her specific age, but she is around 17-18 years old. She is a girl who is really good at hunting, it was something she learned from her dead who passed away when she was young.

The second character who has a huge impact on the book is Peeta Mellark. He is the boy from the same district as Katniss and he is also the boy who won the Hunger Games together with her. He is the son of a baker and he is known to be very strong. The reason behind his strength is all the heavy flour bags his dad made him carry.

Haymitch, mostly known for being both Katniss and Peeta's mentor during the Hunger Games. He is the only living victor from District 12 who survived the second Quarter Quell before Katniss and Peeta won the 74th Hunger Games. Haymitch won the 50th Hunger Games. He is known for always being drunk. He might seem like someone who doesn't take anything seriously, but he is actually a really clever man.

President Snow, the president of Panem is also an important character in the book. Even though being the President of Panem, he is a man who is really evil. After Haymitch won the 50th Hunger Games, Snow murdered Haymitch's mom, little brother and girlfriend in revenge of making the Capitol look foolish because of a stunt he made. He also wants to take his revenge on Katniss and Peeta for pretending to be together in order to win the Hunger Games together.

Setting

The book takes place in a lot of different places. But there are two places that really stand out as important for the characters and the book: District 12 and the capitol.

District 12 is where Katniss Everdeen, the main character in the book grew up. Since Catching Fire is the second book in the trilogy, they don't tell so much about the time she lived there. Ever since she became the winner of the Hunger Games together with her friend from the same district, Peeta Mellark, she moved to a richer area. But she always came to District 12 so she could hunt in the woods.

The capitol is a really important setting in the book as well, this is where Katniss meets the other victors from the other districts and this is also the place where Peeta says that Katniss is pregnant to try to help save her.

My reading habits

On my second entry I am going to talk about my reading habits...

I don't have any specific reading habits, but I am someone who likes to read a lot. Usually people read better when it's quiet around them, but I have noticed that I read better when I'm listening to music. That's the only reading habit I have, I guess. I read better while listening to music.
